From Tok to Haines...

The trip along the Alaska Highway started bright and early and it was a good thing we started as early as we did! Also, it was a good thing we brought food and drinks. There is no where, absolutely No Where to stop to eat, to pee, to nada but take pictures and view the wildlife. Or so it was on our way between Tok and Haines Junction. I think the nicest part of the whole trip was actually between Haines Junction and Haines. Be prepared if you do take this route, the roads aren't that great. When it says bump, dip, rough road.. they really mean it!

On this second day of our trip, We saw a fox, swans pairing off, ducks wherever there were swans (I thought that interesting), more incredible views of mountains (we got up to over 6000ft), then down to sea level when we reached Haines, where there were more swans, ducks and eagles. Haines is a delightful little town. I enjoyed our stay there. I highly recommend the Alaska Guard House. It has the best B&B atmosphere ever and the owner is very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were spacious and clean.. and when you are travel weary, we all know how very important that is!!

Taking a break!

The movers showed up at 7pm ish Monday night and delivered about 60% of our goods and then delivered the rest Tuesday bright and early 8:30am. Yikes! I was not ready for that wake up call, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! I decided to start unpacking in the bedroom. I forgot we had so much stuff. Thankfully I have the whole week off from work to get in and get settled. Hopefully I can do it all before the weekend. I feel like I might need some fun by the time this weekend rolls around.

So on to some more fun things... Like pictures from my trip from Anchorage to Tok. Remember that? Wonder why you've heard the expression, "when life spins ya" ... well it is because you come right back around :)


This was the first time I've ever seen a herd of Caribou and they crossed the highway in front of us. We came to a complete stop to watch them cross. It was incredible!











Oh.. and the Swans, they were amazing! We saw these first as we were almost to Tok. There were so many I didn't even attempt to count them. Further along, on our way from Tok to Haines, we saw them pairing off, such a beautiful sight.

I tried to get a picture of the porcupine I saw, but I was having problems with my camera, which is crazy odd. I love my camera.

I didn't take any pictures of Tok. I think maybe because there just isn't much there. We did have a nice place to sleep and eat at Fast Eddies. So if ever you are on your way through there, now you know a good place to stay.

Going Home...

It will be an all day event beginning at about 6am Central and ending about 11pm Central (8pm AK time). I'm looking forward to getting back to a somewhat normal state.

Our household goods are to be delivered Monday and I'll be unpacking all week long. I can hardly wait to get my work room setup for crafting and such. In this house I will have my own room, so exciting! I still don't know exactly how I'm going to situate it all, but it will certainly keep me busy for a long time!

One more happy thing to report... we accepted an offer on our home. Hopefully, selling it will go smoothly. I am not interested in drama right now.

And one last look at Biloxi before I leave it...


I took these photos from Hwy 90 in Biloxi, MS. Katrina destroyed many of the beautiful trees that lined the median of the highway and instead of cutting these down and completely doing away with what was once considered very dear to us (we like our trees!), the city had them turn into wonderful pieces of art. There are lots more of them that line the highway, but I didn't get a chance to photograph them. These are located between the 110 bridge and Veterens Avenue.

Today...

This is me today. I'm 140 pounds lighter. Mother & I went shopping and it always amazes me when I can fit into what I call "regular" sizes. I usually have a real hard time finding jeans and have walked out of stores many times crying because I couldn't find jeans to fit. I decided to go into Gap and try on a few and guess what!?! I found a pair that fit! Size 14. Not tight even. I tried on the 12, but they were just a little uncomfortable. I know that in a month I may be able to wear them, but I will stick with the 14 for now. I also found a pair of navy pants on sale and they fit too! I couldn't believe my luck. So not like me.

I also scored at Banana Republic! a knit dress for $8 and a knit top for $8! I will have to model the dress and post a pic. Not that I don't like Lane Bryant, but it felt pretty darn good walking past and feeling like I didn't have to go in and shop.

Mother's yard...

Theres so much to see in Mother's yard. I think she passed her love for the outdoors to me. One of my very favorite things to do in the summer is to be in my flower or vegetable garden weeding and playing around. I like what it yeilds physically as well as how much it seems to help spritually. If I'm having a problem, I can always go outside and pull weeds and think it over.

Nutrition is a must...

Ya have to take a break and you certainly must if it involves crawfish! My brother & brother-in-law cooked the best batch of crawfish known to man today. I enjoyed every single bite and even the potatoes, which is odd, because I can't tolerate many potatoes and I had four (they were small). And.. it was all fresh veggies from the garden today! It was nice to sit outside under the oak trees, lick my fingers, eat and visit. So Southern and so me.

It felt good to be in Mississippi today!

I feel so disjointed right now. I have always known what to do, when to do it, who needs exactly what.. and now it seems it is well beyond my control.

Callie is hoping to go home to palitive care with the help of Hospice. She has multiple obstructions throughout her intestines and cancer within the lining of her stomach. I'm still hoping for a miracle.

She's my baby girl.
