Leaving...

This is where it all happened.... 16224 Copper Mountain Circle. This is the first house that we've purchased. This garden was the first garden that I planted at MY house :)
I don't get sentimental much, but right now I'm feeling it. Our place in Ketchikan does not have a yard like this to work in...

Or a deck like this to grill on and just hang... and have a cigar if you like...
And just as it is getting to be spring....

Anxiously awaiting...

You can only get to Ketchikan two ways.. boat or plane. I never have liked the idea of living on an island, but an adventure is an adventure. I like new experiences, discovering and learning about new cultures.. This is going to be good.

Our realtor said that she would introduce me to the Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council and plans to get me involved now that she knows I'm crafty and can sew. And this sounds fun... "Monthly Grind, Saturday,7pm at the Saxman Tribal house. Live local talent, dessert and coffee, all for just $5 per adult, and $1 for kids. Buy a ticket, bring a homemade dessert and get a refund." Sitnews. This just might give me a reason to make cupcakes like Saucy!!!! Ok, if you don't click on any other link provided here today.. YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST LOOK AT THOSE CUPCAKES!!!

It took me so long to find real friendship in Anchorage where the community is so transit, that I'm looking forward to just jumping in and getting to know folks. I'm anxious, but I feel it will be a good thing..


I think this is such a delightful picture.. You should have seen the whole thing.. I could just imagine little fairies having a party and these were the lanterns left over from the grand gala.
The tree also looks like it has a million little cystals hanging from its branches.... Love it!

Everyone said that I'm not going to like all the rain in Ketchikan, where they say it rains "all the time." I find that a bit of an exaggeration ! And what they all don't know is, I'm from one of THE rainest spots in the US.. This study ranked 195 cities in the contiguous 48 states, which of course doesn't include Alaska or Hawaii..


See that pink building in the distance, that is the Federal Building where Hal will be working. I find it funny, because the boy will not even where a pink shirt! You can barely see where I'll be working in this picture too. It is on the right at the top of the street, close to the intersection there. I'll be walking distance for lunch dates.. How cool! and our house is walking distance as well! Score :)

I've been working around the house in between writing this post. After today, I might be MIA for a while. Monday & Tuesday they pack us out, Wednesday I've got to clean up, Thursday & Friday I'm on the road from Eagle River to Haines, Saturday & Sunday on the ferry from Haines to Ketchikan, and Monday I start work. I will be sure to take pictures along the way and update soon...

Does it help you to vocalize things to make them more real? Making list kinda does this for me.. puts some fire under my yaha for sure!

~ Agree/Sign Contract for repairs on the house
~ Go through house and decide on stuff... Keep, Donate, Trash..
~ Take Purrcules & Susie Blu to Vet and get shots updated and health certificates (I need this 'cause I'm driving through Canada.)
~ Keep watch on the mail. I applied for my passport and they should be sending my original birth certificate back. I'm definitely going to need that while on the road!
~ Update iPod! Need music & books for traveling!
~ Continue to review map to Haines.

Back in Anchorage..

Saturday Hal & I enjoyed a drive and just as the sun decided to show, we were at Rotary Beach and I said.. turn around, let's go play there...







3 guys were hitting rocks with old sticks and asked if we wanted to try.. of course I was all over that! I got 2 out of 3 and they asked me to join the co-ed softball league :) Cute!














In my knitting circles we are always discussing the things you learn while knitting... On Saturday, before we were to meet with the realtor , I asked Hal if we could stop by the knitting store. Of course being the sweet wonderful man, he didn't mind. So in I went.. and there was a group knitting and we got into conversation and it lead to where are you from? what are you doing here? what does your husband do? what do you do? do you need a job? have you found a house yet?... I'm laughing a bit to myself here.. I was talking a mile a minute and I don't talk that much normally.. I'm more of a listner...
Well from that conversation, I found my future home and was offered two jobs, turned one down and accepted the other one here.

I'm a firm believer that when things are meant to be, all will fall into place naturally.

Our house is the one furtherest to the left in this picture. We will be living in the penthouse apartment.. in the deluxe apartment in the ski.i.i.i... We're movin' on up.. I get derailed here...

What a day!

I'm so excited! I accepted a job offer today and found a house and paid the first months rent. How's that for getting things done! :)

So, I'm leaving tomorrow morning so I can get things done in Anchorage and get things ready... I'm doing my little excited squeal.. It is a good thing you can't hear me! LOL!

And the weather here today... BEAUTIFUL!!!! I hear Anchorage got snow.. No snow here. Yay for me :)

So far...

I'm here at the The Best Western Landing in Ketchikan. It is a really nice place to stay. It's rare... but I'm actually enjoying the food here. I say that because when I was in Port Townsend, WA in March.. I couldn't find anything to eat or when I did eat, I got ill. I haven't gotten ill once. You just don't know how much of a relief that is.

I have seen 3 homes. I get to see more tomorrow. I can't post picture (like I wanna) because I'm on the business center computer.

I'm never really bored, but I kinda am right now. Hal just left for the ferry to go over to the airport and now I'm just thinking... What to do now. I will say this for Ketchikan.. There ain't nothing to do here on Sunday unless you want to go to confession and then to a bar.. I guess you could do it both ways.. ha.. ha.. Bad me. I know.

I didn't realize I planned this trip on Easter weekend. But oh well, tomorrow it will all be over and I can get back to house hunting.

Thinking, Doing, Knitting....

I am seriously thinking about this house on 506 Pine Street, Ketchikan. I'm worried that we are going to get there on our house hunting trip and not have a house... I've never worried so much before. Seriously!

We've got a drafted portion of the relocation paperwork filled out, now we are just waiting for the Forest Service to do their part :) and I'm sure they will... I'm just not the most patient soul when it comes to moves.. been there, done that .. with the USAF!!!


The Alaska Fiber Hounds yarn crawl group got together for our monthly sit-n-knit session at Jitters in Eagle River this past Saturday. We had a great time! I was learning a new method for toe-up socks called Judy's Magic Cast On for Toe-up Socks. I love learning new techniques, but I'm not sure about doing the short rows after you get the cast on done.... It will just take more practice, I'm sure :)

Rain gear and lots of it.. So, now I'm obsessed with looking at all the fabulous rain gear fashions :)

So many to choose from..

and I couldn't list the rain boots, I just want them all!

Moving...

My husband just accepted a job with the Forest Service in Ketchikan, Alaska which is located in Southeast Alaska. He will be working in the Tongass National Forest. His start date at the new job is May 10th. That gives me a month to get everything in order and kick into overdrive. I don't know if I will have a spare moment for knitting or anything. We have so much to do... Pack, sell home, update my resume, find a new home... Now that reality has kicked in, I'm getting anxious!

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions???

I do know one thing... I've got to get my passport! Like now.
