11 Vine & Leaf Beret

Knitting Nyssa sent me this lovely yarn in a yarn swap through ravelry. She dyed it herself. Something I haven't had the nerve to try yet.

This is the first finished project I've ever knitted from a magazine.
One of my goals for this year is to make something from every magazine I get.

This pattern is #11, Vine and Leaf Beret from Vogue Knitting Fall 2009.
I enjoyed knitting it and obtained the correct gauge, however...
even the small is too big for my head.
And here I thought, I had a big head!
The knitted measurements say circumference is 20" and my head is 21 1/2".
Interesting.
So beware.

Measure your head and if you have a bigger head than mine...
Leave me a note and I'll mail it to ya.
If I get more than one larger head..
I'll pick a random bleader to send it to :)

On to an unfinished project now... more than one sweater.
Sleeves, seaming, accessorizing, blocking, etc...
It is going to be a great year for finished projects!

Year End Review...

Thought I would try out a slide show. So very much happened this 2009, It is hard for me to recap. But here goes...

Jan... was the coldest month with -32F below temps in Anchorage. And although it was cold, I got out in it. Can't let the weather stop ya!
Feb... Found some new friends and fibers!
March... still a lot of snow.. and fun times playing in it!
April.. new job opportunity for my man, and house hunting for us too.
May.. great trip across Alaska and Canada just to get back to Alaska. It was gorgeous weather. I'm an Alaskan, we are obsessed with the weather :)
June... visit with family, lost my sister.
July.. good food! and back to work.
Aug... got to know Ketchikan a bit better.
Sept... marked one year since my life changing surgery and a new me.
Oct... taught knitting classes and enjoyed the beautiful fall.
Nov... spent our first Thanksgiving alone. It was nice.
Dec... tried hiking, more knitting, some traveling and enjoying friends!

New Things...

I'm being brave.
Trying new things.
#1. I didn't get winded once!
#2. I can't believe I actually went.
#3. I had tons of fun :)

I was invited by a group of ladies that I've been teaching to knit
to go out hiking. I had to make sure it was "hiking" and not "climbing!"
Not good with the climbing.

It was a perfect day. Loads of sunshine. Clean fresh mountain air.
Good company... that's what really makes it, right?

The forest bed was covered in a carpet of soft green moss that was frosted with snow.
And outside of the forest in the open, the muskeg was covered in hard ice crystals.
Gorgeous!

A Whole Lotta Knitting...

This is a first!
I've never been this early with gifts before.
Now let's just see if I can get them to the Post Office soon.
Last year I was getting things to the Post Office on the 23rd!

I'm keeping it simple this year,
and I think that's the key.
I had request for hats, easy peasy!
So I kept the wrapping simple too.
Wal-Mart, not my usual, but it works.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas...

So after dinner, I thought we'd go for a drive and see if anyone had lights up.
No one did! I couldn't believe it.
So, crazy us went to Wal-Mart,
bought lights
and hooked it up!!

I just started decorating :)

I'M GOING TO SEE BON JOVI!!

I must preface this with.. I dreamed about Bon Jovi last night. He was on tour and I got a personal tour of the bus. It was the coolest bus I'd ever seen. So this morning with a jerk, I wake up and remember that a friend had told me that Bon Jovi was coming to Seattle Feb. 19th. and I went online to see if I could get affordable tickets and there were none, None, NONE left! So I call my honey who is in transit and leave a text saying I want to buy tickets, they are spendy so call me let's discuss. Well when he called me back, he said... well can we discuss this when I get home .. and I'm thinking, absolutely not, what if those tickets disappear.. but I said yeah like a crazy person. Then he calls me back, little bugger, and says.. don't buy the tickets, we've already got them and it was to be your Christmas!! HELLO!! How crazy is that! and I'm so blessed. My family knows me so well. It is going to be the best ever!!
